The holiday season is synonymous with celebrating what unites us. A truly unique time of year when family, friends, and neighbors come together inspired by a universal spirit of giving and sharing. Amid a year dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic and marked by uncertainty, the 2021 holiday season offers a chance to heal and reflect.

In particular, one Austin-based nonprofit hopes Central Texans will channel their collective generosity toward participating in a giving campaign held annually to promote giving back to communities in need. For a fifth consecutive year, I Live Here I Give Here (ILHIGH) will serve as the official Community Leader representing the Central Texas region for GivingTuesday — an annual day of giving that takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Since its inception, ILHIGH’s mission has been to make Central Texas the most generous community in the nation. Through programs such as Amplify Austin Day, See Us Give (formerly See Jane Give and Give Back Jack), GivingTuesday, Board Internship Program, and the ILHIGH Awards, ILHIGH creates a path for locals to find issues they’re passionate about and allow them to be part of the solution.

In 2021, the organization has set out to reach $100 million in cumulative funding and 38 million through acts of generosity for its 2021 Central Texas GivingTuesday campaign kicking off on November 30.

“2021 is a momentous year for I Live Here I Give Here,” Courtney Manuel, Chief Executive Officer at I Live Here I Give Here said. “Not only are we celebrating our organization’s 15th Anniversary, we are also about to achieve an incredible milestone -- $100 million raised for Central Texas nonprofits. We will surpass this landmark achievement on GivingTuesday, thanks to the generous Central Texans who helped us get there!”

Every year, GivingTuesday helps communities give back at a local level following shopping events like Black Friday or Cyber Monday, and promotes the idea that collective giving and acts of generosity shape communities through donation and engagement via virtual or in-person volunteerism. According to ILHIGH's website, families and businesses raised $12.3 million for 760 Central Texas nonprofits in 2020.

As a new endeavor this year, ILHIGH will partner with Visible, an all-digital wireless service powered by Verizon and committed to accessibility and inclusivity.

"We set out to create a groundswell of impactful change by shining a light on people so all of us are seen, heard, and empowered. We're excited to support the work of I Live Here I Give Here as they work toward our shared value of connecting people and showing up for the community," Angie Klein, Visible CEO said.
