The innovative delivery service is expanding alcohol delivery to Texas to continue its successful run during the COVID-19 pandemic.
DoorDash, a major food delivery service, announced its plans to expand beer, wine, and spirit delivery services in 20 states, including Texas. A separate tab has been created, labeled ‘alcohol,’ where customers can order their favorite alcoholic drinks from local restaurants, grocery stores, and gas stations, and will not be required to purchase food with their drink order.
This decision comes after a successful trial run caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many restaurants and food delivery services made good use out of the legislation permitting alcohol delivery to consumers’ homes.
Caitlin Macnamara, director of alcohol strategy and operations at DoorDash said, “over the past year, many cities where we operate evolved their legislation in order to permit the delivery of alcohol to residents’ homes. Over that time, we worked tirelessly to build a trusted alcohol ordering and delivery experience for merchants, customers, and Dashers,” as reported by Nation’s Restaraunt News.
The dedicated alcohol tab not only features to-go drinks but also bottles of celebratory wine and champagne. No matter what the occasion, a drink of your choice is sure to be on the menu.
According to SA Current, this decision, although beneficial for the delivery service's revenue stream, comes with its fair share of safety concerns. Because of this, extensive security measures will be taken to keep alcohol delivery legal.
These include precise ID verification at checkout, ID checks upon delivery, and a compliance course for DoorDash employees who are 21 and older. All of these checkpoints are to ensure the companies’ employees understand the severity of making sure alcohol is delivered safely and to people above the drinking age.
This innovative concept will not only make it easier for consumers to get alcohol delivered to their front door, but it will also help safely increase the fun at any party or gathering you may be hosting.
Those looking to celebrate the right way are encouraged to use DoorDash’s new alcohol delivery service for a safe and effective way to get your drinks of choice.
