The Houston-based organization will donate a total of $50,000 and 450 mattresses to help refugees resettle across Texas.
The nation’s largest mattress specialty retailer, Mattress Firm, announced in a press release its commitment to donate three grants totaling $50,000 and 450 mattresses to assist in the resettlement efforts for Afghan refugees in Houston, Austin, Dallas, and across the country.
The Houston-based company plans to have the grants and beds distributed to three organizations, including The Alliance, Refugee Services of Texas, and the International Rescue Committee, to aid in their respective efforts for improved quality of life for refugees, immigrants, and other underserved populations.
“The Alliance is grateful for Mattress Firm’s leadership in supporting our Afghan allies who risked their lives in support of the U.S. mission in Afghanistan. This generous gift will provide immediate relief to the Afghan families as they settle into their new homes in Houston. We are proud to be part of this community effort and truly appreciate Mattress Firm’s support in ensuring a successful resettlement process for the families,” Daniel Stoecker, president, and CEO of The Alliance said in the press release.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) will receive a $10,000 grant to advance its mission of helping people whose lives were affected by life-shattering crises to recover and build a better future. Mattress Firm will also allow customers opportunities to make financial contributions during their in-store checkout to IRC from Sept. 22 through Oct. 12 at Mattress Firm stores located across the country, with 100% of funds raised to be donated to IRC.
Refugee Services of Texas (RST) will receive a $20,000 grant to assist refugees' resettlement in Austin and Dallas and assist RST efforts to serve displaced peoples with compassion and dignity as they rebuild lives in their new communities. Mattress Firm will also donate 100 mattresses to RST to ensure refugees in Austin and Dallas are given access to a restful night amid their rebuilding efforts. “Refugee Services of Texas could not provide refugees with open hearts and fresh starts without corporate partners like Mattress Firm,” Ashley Faye, Development Director, Refugee Services of Texas, said in the press release.
