In anticipation of the new school year, Taco Bell Franchisee, North Texas Bells, in partnership with Pop’s Provisions program, has provided school supplies for more than 640 children in the community for the 2021-2022 school year. Pop’s Provisions focuses on offering school supplies to elementary school-aged children residing in North Texas.
Pop’s Provisions helps relieve the financial burden associated with school supplies and lend support for children to return to school and achieve academic success. Founder Robert Shivers was an advocate for giving back to the community, and those goals are now helmed by his daughter.
The donation means a bit more this year due to the challenging year school-age children experienced in 2020, and the shift to virtual learning amid the pandemic.
According to a United Way study, like many students across the state, North Texas children struggled to keep up due to a lack of resources and support for remote schooling.
Research indicates that students of color and in high-poverty communities, on average, experience higher learning loss than their peers, thus widening the opportunity gap in education.
“Students of color have been affected disproportionately by learning loss as they are more likely to live in internet deserts, as well as have parents and caregivers who needed to continue to work during the pandemic as essential workers,” Abigail Sharp, Vice President of early childhood initiatives at United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, said.
The study underscores the increased need for community involvement in helping students regain their footing as we enter into this upcoming in-person school year. The Glady’s Foundation in tandem with Pop’s Provisions lent support to North Texas Bells to buy, pack, and deliver school supplies to the more than 640 children throughout the region. The Glady’s Foundation benefits North Texas families through scholarships, Pop’s Provisions school supplies, and a hardship fund.
North Texas Bells, LLC (NTB) serves as a franchisee of Taco Bell Corp. and was founded in 2011 from the acquisition of 13 units in the Dallas DMA. For more information on this year’s school supply donation, visit the press release HERE.
