Northwest Texas Healthcare System (NWTHS) was recently awarded the American Heart Association’s GoldPlus Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Achievement Award. This award seeks to recognize healthcare providers who ensure stroke patients receive the utmost care and appropriate treatment when possible.
According to ABC 7 News, this is the first year the NWTHS has received the award and is the only hospital in Amarillo to be featured on the Type 2 Honor Roll.
The Healthcare System will host a special reception on Thursday at 2:00 pm in The Heart Hospital lobby to celebrate their achievement.
“Northwest Texas Healthcare System is honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association for our dedication to helping our patients have the best possible chance of survival and after a stroke,” Ryan Chandler, CEO said. “Get With The Guidelines-Stroke makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis to improve outcomes for stroke patients.”
To earn a chance at being recognized for this award, program participants must demonstrate the ways they exemplify excellent care for stroke patients. In addition, they are also required to provide educational resources to their patients for how to manage their health and rehabilitation when they return home.
“We are pleased to recognize Northwest Texas Healthcare System for their commitment to stroke care,” said Lee H. Schwamm, M.D., national chairperson of the Quality Oversight Committee and Executive Vice Chair of Neurology, Director of Acute Stroke Services, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. “Research has shown that hospitals adhering to clinical measures through the Get With The Guidelines quality improvement initiative can often see fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates.”
Currently, strokes are the number five cause of death and are the leading cause of adult disability in the country. On average, one U.S. adult suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, which is an alarming statistic. We appreciate the care all healthcare workers provide and want to congratulate Northwest Texas Healthcare for this tremendous achievement.
