In a press release, Dallas-based Southwest Airlines extended an invitation to 501(c)(3) organizations to enter for a chance to win 100 domestic one-way Southwest travel awards as part of its Acts of Kindness campaign. The airline recently announced its employees, customers, friends, and partners collectively completed and logged one million Acts of Kindness, a goal initially set to be completed by the end of the year.

To further give back and celebrate the milestone, Southwest opened this contest, which grants travel to 50 nonprofit organizations across the country. Each winner will receive 100 domestic one-way Southwest travel awards for outreach and community work to further spread kindness across the country. The total travel prize includes 5,000 domestic one-way travel awards valued at $1 million.

“Our Employees, Customers, friends, and partners came together and answered a call to complete one million Acts of Kindness —months ahead of our year-end goal,” Linda Rutherford, Executive Vice President People & Communications at Southwest Airlines said in the press release. The campaign aimed at promoting kind acts is especially meaningful as various nonprofits see an increase in needed support and resources to communities impacted by the ongoing pandemic.

“Acts of Kindness are a universal language and make such a difference in the world. We believe there’s no better way to celebrate one million Acts of Kindness than by paying forward $1 million of thanks to organizations impacting the lives of those most in need.”

The one million Acts of Kindness challenge kicked off in January 2021 to mark the yearlong celebration of Southwest’s 50th Anniversary and its first flight. Participants signed the airline's Kindness Pledge offering their commitment to performing Acts of Kindness for others. Each signature garnered was shared on social media using the hashtag "#HeartinAction" and was counted toward the one million Acts of Kindness goal.
