The Birdwell Foundation for PTSD, a Houston-based nonprofit organization assisting Veterans and First Responders suffering from PTSD and related illnesses, has announced the opening of Camp Valor located in Conroe, TX.
The Camp will serve Veterans and First Responders recovering from PTSD and addiction, and provide opportunities for healing provided by trained staff and volunteers through peer-to-peer mentoring, life skills, professional counseling, and training up to six months.
The Camp is a two-story brick home with beds up to 16 person capacity including a large country kitchen, two fireplaces, a saltwater pool, and two barns. Located a short drive from Houston, it is quietly situated amid 9.5 acres of lush green property beside a large creed-fed pond.
Plans to further develop The Camp include adding gym facilities, a large garden, and a new building to house more men while providing the brick home as a designated location for women impacted by similar forms of trauma.
Future plans include skilled volunteers teaching trades such as carpentry, welding, electrical, auto mechanics and masonry, to lend opportunities for Veterans and First Responders to develop productive, self-reliance in the civilian world.
Community support is critical to sustaining the mission of The Camp, and The Birdwell Foundation invites you to learn more about the important work they do, and see the current Wish List of items to complete Camp set-up this summer on the “Friends of Camp Valor” Facebook page.
