Updated: Jun 9

Nico LaHood has innovated to reach the top levels of criminal law.

Serving Bexar County

As a San Antonio native with over 18 years of experience as a well-established criminal defense lawyer and prosecutor, Nicholas “Nico” LaHood discusses his journey of becoming a lawyer and later the District Attorney (DA) of Bexar County.

During his tenure as DA of Bexar County, Nico led a legal team of over 500 employees, 200 of those employees being lawyers. Leading up to his public service as DA, Nico earned a reputation as a premier DWI/ criminal defense lawyer. He served as a Magistrate Judge for Bexar County and held a position as an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s University School of Law.

It Takes Years To Build a Good Reputation, and One Second to Mess It Up

In this video, Nico highlights his love for litigating law, criminal defense, and simply speaking with and helping people. Nico takes pride in his titles of lawyer and counselor, emphasizing the counselor aspect.

Nico is an excellent example of not letting your past define you, given the legal troubles and tragic loss he experienced in his youth. As his father always said, “it takes years to build a good reputation and one second to mess it up,” a motto that sticks with Nico to this day.

Nico will be on the ballot in the Republican Primaries for the Texas House seat in District 122, a position held by Lyle Larson for the past 11 years, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
